Fix A Bike

Free Ride is not a traditional repair shop during Open Shop. You can fix a bike using the bicycle tools and parts available at Free Ride, or you can buy used bicycles and parts.  Designated Volunteer Staffers are on-hand if you have questions about how to do a repair – but Free Ride is a ‘Do It Yourself’ Shop.  Our goal is to let people get comfortable repairing bikes, experimenting with new tools and helping them learn mechanics.  Please hold us to this – we do not want to ‘take tools out of hands’ or give unsolicited repair advice. If you enjoy helping people with bikes and bike-repair questions – and would like to do this during Open Shop – please consider becoming a Free Ride ‘Staffer’.  We are always looking for new volunteers.

There is a $5 fee to use the shop for repairs – waived if you have an Access Card, also payable with Volunteer-Credit.

We do not take donated items in exchange for used items in our stock – ie: no trades – but we do offer a tax receipt for items donated.

Buy a Bike

Bicycles are sold as-is and the price is set in advance.  For used parts we request a monetary donation.  We take cash and cards for payments and donations. We also take Free-Ride-In-Shop Credit as payment. In-Shop Credit, earned by volunteering at Free Ride on Volunteer nights, is redeemable towards bicycles, the shop fee, or as a donation for used parts.  You can redeem your own shop credit on behalf of someone else as a gift.  In-Shop Credit cannot be used to purchase brand-new items we stock our shop with, like brake-pads, or T-Shirts. There is a 2 bike per person limit on Open Shop bike-purchases on any given day. Employees of Construction Junction, after 90 days of employment – are entitled to a 50% discount on all used bicycles.
