Adult Mechanic’s Classes
Basic Classes – Sunday Series
We offer a 6 week series of classes, one class per week. Each class in the series is 2 hours long and covers a different topic, starting with more basic ideas in the early classes and getting more advanced as the series goes on. This is excellent for those folks who are interested in comprehensive instruction on how to give their bike a basic tune-up or just get an introduction to a breadth of bike mechanics. The series classes require pre-registration – registration is rolling and we do not schedule a series until we have at least 6 students registered. They are typically scheduled for Sunday nights.
Basic Classes – Drop-In
We offer basic bicycle mechanic classes on 6 topics, on a class-by-class basis. The drop-in classes are on Sunday afternoons and Tuesday nights (Also we have drop-in classes only for Women, Transgendered, Queer and Femme folks, on the 1st, 3rd and 5th Wednesday nights of each month).
Drop-in classes are a nice option for those folks who want to learn about specific repairs, like adjusting brakes or truing a wheel. No advanced registration is required, so just drop on in! Check the calendar for more details on which classes are available when.
Frames and Internal Systems Classes – Drop-In
Free Ride offers these drop-in classes on frames and internal systems, in addition to the 6 basic drop-in classes. We offer these classes for those people who want to develop their skills working with the frame itself as well as the systems and components that operate inside of the frame.
These classes also offer a strong benefit to the general health of Free Ride, an opportunity for shop users, volunteers and staffers to learn how to use the more elaborate tools in the shop without damaging them.
Frames and internal systems classes are scheduled one session per topic, per season, i.e. one of each in Spring, one of each in Summer, one of each in Autumn. Check the calendar for more details on available dates.
