Women and Queer Nite!!!
Women and Queer Nite!
Open Shop:
Free Ride hosts an open shop night for women, genderqueer, and transgender folks ONLY every 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the month from 6-10pm. Open shop is an opportunity to have access to our tools, work stands, repair manuals, used parts, and the collective knowledge of shop users. Keep in mind that you will not be getting “classroom-style” instruction at Women and Queer Nite (or any other open shop night). We are starting to offer mechanics classes for that purpose. Read more about that below!
During Women and Queer Nite, we strive to create a positive environment where women, genderqueer, and trans folks can work together to make repairs and solve problems. We emphasize making people feel more confident about wrenching, especially if they are very new to it. If you want to make repairs to your bike, or just want to wrench around and troubleshoot on one of our recycled bikes, then this is for you. Oh yeah, we also jam to dancey mixes. Bring a mix if you want to!
We understand that many bike shops can sometimes appear competitive and macho. Free Ride, as a community organization, tries our best to facilitate an inclusive environment that is friendly and safe for ALL people at ALL times. However, we also find it very helpful to host Women and Queer Nite as a way to extend an open hand to those of us who identify as women, trans, and genderqueer. So… hi!!!
